New Home for Vintage Treasures

Local Fashion Industry expert Claire Trolio, from Ruck Rover in Mount Lawley, introduces a new haven for those with a passion for all things vintage.

While Mum's up in Inglewood has always been worth the trip to find quality, interesting vintage items, the latest addition to the fast developing strip offers another reason to head a bit further north up Beaufort Street.

Winifred and Bance opened back in 25 July 2007 after owner Dee gutted and revamped the interior.

The store is filled with a huge array of vintage wearables for funky girls and stylish lads including clothing, handbags, shoes, ties, gloves, hats and jewellery. But Winifred and Bance isn’t limited to one genre of vintage items, also stocking old books and quaint curios. With the weather heating up pop up and pick out some sunglasses from either the new or vintage ranges to go with one of their fabulous summer frocks.wb3.jpg

After growing up on a farm in Cunderdin, Dee seems to have worked in every field, from a medical receptionist to a farmer; from a cleaner to a truck driver. But the opportunity to open a boutique arose at the right time leading to another change in vocation with which she could involve her love of old things and of op shopping.

“After my nan died a couple years ago,” says Dee, “it was my job to clean out her house on the farm. I found so many treasures and precious things!”

The shop is even named after her nan, whose name was Winifred Bance. It is clear that this lady provided much inspiration for the store. Dee has held onto her furniture and used it to fit out the shop, and even has her old 1940s wedding dress and other household items on display, making the store a great place to visit just to check out the amazing items. You’ll feel at home amongst the old mirrors, kitch wall hangings and magazines from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s which you can drop by and peruse.

wb2.jpgDee explains that her passion comes from the idea that “back then things were so much more precious to people”. She loves the history that each piece offers and the quality of vintage items which really were built to last.

There is something for everyone with prices ranging from just $2 up to $500 for a beautiful 1930s silk wedding gown. Most items sell at a very affordable price point under $100.
